Remembering Del

We said a final goodbye to our colleague, Derek Joseph Kirwan (Del), as he was laid to rest. For 26 years, Del was a beloved and foundational member of our research team at Fraser and Fraser before his long-term health issues led him to leave.

Del was a proud father to his son and daughter and faced immense challenges, including the tragic loss of his only son at the young age of 26, a heartbreak that took an emotional toll. To his colleagues, Del was a kind, generous, and protective figure – a “protective uncle.” He was known for being headstrong in his values and ways, and his infection laugh was a staple in the research room, always lighting it up.

Del was also a familiar face to many who knew him as the “Reluctant Television Celebrity” from the TV series Heir Hunters. Though he “avoided it like the plague,” he would always manage to be featured in one way or another through the show’s 12-year run. A typical day for Del involved an extremely productive day at the office before heading to the pub for lunch – a routine that was a testament to his unique personality.

We are proud to have worked with Del for almost three decades. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family and loved ones during this difficult time, may he rest peacefully.
